The North Carolina Tar Heels roll into the nation’s capital as the outright ACC regular season champions after an 84-79 win in Durham over arch-rival Duke. UNC will kick off the ACC Tournament Thursday at high noon. UNC is currently ranked number 4 in the AP poll but in many bracketology ranks the Heels are listed as a 2 seed. Currently Joe Lunardi, of ESPN, has UNC as a 2 seed in the East region. The current 1 seeds are Purdue, the top overall seed, UConn, Houston, and Tennessee as the teams on the one line. CBS Sports and Bleacher Report have the same teams on the one line. Is there a possibility for UNC to move up to the one line?
With both Arizona and Tennessee losing their last games of the regular season the possibility of UNC moving up to a 1 seed is possible. If Tennessee handles business and wins the SEC Tournament they are likely to be the 1 seed out West. However, the SEC has proven to be one of the best leagues in the country and an early loss in the quarterfinals may open the door for UNC to jump them if the Tar Heels win the ACC Tournament. Arizona could be a contender as well for that final spot as a top seed as well. In the grand scheme of things, UNC will most likely be playing in Charlotte in the first round of the NCAA Tournament regardless of it they are a 1 seed or a 2 seed. Carolina has always played well and is nearly unbeatable when they play NCAA Tournament games in the state of North Carolina. UNC has had a strong season with RJ Davis winning the ACC player of the year and Hubert Davis winning coach of the year. The most important thing for this team is to carry the momentum of their regular season into the postseason and play their best basketball now.
