As expected, former NBA player and Duke basketball star JJ Redick has been named Los Angeles Lakers head coach per ESPN basketball insider Adrian Wojnawrowski. Yes, Woj, dropped his infamous bomb live on the 3:00 Sportscenter special.
JJ, who has been apart of ESPN's basketball segments weekly had been named a potential candidate for the vacancy recently before the Lakers made an offer to University of Connecticut's Dan Hurley (6 years, $70 million).
Per Woj, "They saw upside with JJ Redick. There wasn't a championship coach ready to step in, it's a market place with very good assistant coaches, like James Boreggo, Kenny Atkinson. They saw upside on becoming a high level coach".
Recently, Redick developed his Mind the Game podcast with fellow NBA star and player Lebron James which discusses basketball schematics and IQ of players in today's NBA, and past players.
The deal is reported for 4 years. The biggest questions that remain for the Lakers include Redick building a rapport with players, hiring championship experience coaches to build around his staff, and having a profound impact on the Lakers.
