The number 7th ranked Duke Blue Devils extended a second half run to pull away from Maine in their season debut 96-62. The anticipation of potential number 1 pick Cooper Flagg showed a full arsenal of what has drawn NBA GM’s to seek his presence in their organizations a year from now, finishing with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and three steals.

What caught the eye of spectators featured his highlight posterizing dunk, attacking the rim.

Sharp shooter Kon Knueppell, whose name has risen in recent weeks up NBA draft boards filled it up on the boxscore with 22 points, 4 rebounds, and two dimes. Kon game has resembled Reed Sheppard former Kentucky Wildcat.

The Blue Devils outscored the Black Bears 52-29 in the second half which included holding Maine to 1 field goal over the last 11 minutes of action. Similar to the Lady Blue Devils in their season opener win over Radford, defense will certainly be the focal point and identity of their respective squads.

Scheyer commented on the season opener stating,

“It feels good to get a win in the first game and start 1-0 at home; We’ve got to get better defensively; I think there’s going to be a couple of bumps in the games we play so we’ve got to get those worked out”

Next up for the Blue Devils is a home matchup versus Army, Friday November 8th at 6pm.
